Riverside

I've been loving my time down here in California visiting with family and old friends.

Every minute of every day has been scheduled with fun activities like a spa outing with my mom and sister, family meals, friendship dates and more... it's been pure heaven. And the best part has been who I've been spending it with. I seriously have the most wonderful people in my life... which I know will make it all the more difficult to leave pretty soon

One place I've been to several times already (that I rarely visited before) is downtown

I brunched with my best friend's family at the Mission Inn to celebrate her dad's new marriage (His wife is so sweet!), had a FANTASTIC dinner of butternut squash ravioli with my own dad at Mario's, and then a few days later returned with my dad to walk the farmer's market...

The asian pears were delicious! And the fact that there was an amazing supply of succulents and a gorgeous olive tree for sale made me a just a tad bit sad I no longer had the advantage of a Mediterranean climate for growing

I'm going to miss this... all of it

California Bound...

Today we are making the 16 hour trek to California: Me, Danny, and Maverick. And they are having crazy, hot weather for this time of year. For example... a high of 103 tomorrow! What?! We are scheduled for a high of 57 tomorrow with a chance of snow this weekend... I'm now used to snow instead of heat... my heat resistant, California peers are going to look down on me. I'm so looking forward to seeing my family and friends though... and being able to stock up on supplies before the long, Jackson winter is going to be pretty awesome too. LA Fabric District- I'm looking at you!

Since we'll be driving 16 hours tomorrow and probably sleeping all of Friday- I just wanted to wish you a Happy Early Weekend. I'll see you back here next week :)

One Sneaky Pup

Maverick's not allowed on our bed. It's forbidden territory. But lately, I've been finding him napping and soaking up the sunlight on the corner of our bed...

He's smart. It's not all the time, and he does it in the middle of the day when I'm hard at work in my office and not paying attention...

And then I'll take a little break around 3 and come in to find this...

And who can say no to this?

He's one sneaky pup...

If you have pets, are they allowed on the bed?

Apple Pie Oatmeal

Today I have an oatmeal recipe even the oatmeal haters will like! Last Friday my husband was off so I decided to surprise him with some sweet smelling brunch. I woke up, walked Maverick in the pouring rain, and got to work on this Apple Pie Oatmeal. And then the craziest thing happened... it started to snow... and didn't stop for 2 days. What?! I was definitely caught off guard, but I have to tell you: our house felt so cozy smelling the apple and cinnamon together while watching the snow flakes fall outside. It was wonderful. My husband who normally doesn't like oatmeal really liked this recipe too. Enjoy!

Ingredients:
  • butter
  • brown sugar
  • 1 apple chopped into small cubes (Granny Smith preferred but I used Gala)
  • cinnamon
  • 1 cup steel cut oats
  • 2.75 cups of whole milk (I used Lactaid Skim and it still tasted amazing)
  • 1 orange
  • mint sprig (optional)

Melt butter in a large pan over medium low/ medium heat. Once melted, add a handful (or two) of brown sugar and mix. Add chopped apple and cinnamon and stir.

Add oatmeal and milk to saucepan and cook over medium heat for about 15 minutes or until softened. Meanwhile add fresh squeezed orange juice to apple mixture. Zest orange into oatmeal saucepan.

Once apples are finished (they'll be done before the oatmeal), pour out into separate pan and let cool in refrigerator.

Once everything is completed, take out for, small serving bowls (mine were slightly larger than ramekins) and plate accordingly: an ice cream scoop of oatmeal, then the apple mixture, and then top with another scoop of oatmeal. Sprinkle top with brown sugar and a sprig of mint. Enjoy!

To the Weekend!

So winter's here. I think we had about 2 weeks of fall and then yesterday... it started snowing and hasn't stopped since... oh goodness. It's absolutely beautiful though. And I just know I'm going to love snuggling up this weekend and looking outside at the falling snowflakes. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend as well and I'll see you back next week for a really, really, delicious take on breakfast!

Real Wedding: Alex and Morganne Part 3

Today I have the final 2 parts of Alex & Morganne's gorgeous California wedding. The reception details are so beautiful and personal, but what I love most about their wedding is that Alex said, as beautiful as the wedding was, each other, their family, and friends are what made the day what it was.

One of Morganne's bridesmaids is also going to be using the hair flower I created for her as her Something Borrowed for her wedding! Ah!
