Hawaiian Farmer's Markets

One of the really awesome things we did while in Kauai was go to a farmer's market. There are signs and fliers for them everywhere (brochures, signs on the side of the road, our hotel welcome packet- we couldn't get away from them... but we didn't want to... so we lucked out).

Anyways, we'd just spent the day lounging at Tunnels Beach when we started getting rained on (this happened a lot in the beginning of our trip). I love rain... but lying on a beach in the rain starts to turn into lying in the mud (which is only something I like to do at health spas... and even then I tend to feel weird)... so we picked up our things and ran for the car. By the time we'd pulled out of the parking lot, the rain had lessened to a trickle, and so we decided to do a little sightseeing.

Just a little ways down the street we came across one of the farmer's markets we'd been hearing about, and decided to stop. The selection here was insane

Dragon fruit, avocados, starfruit, papayas, mangoes, coconuts... we were in tropical fruit heaven

The flower were gorgeous too (and cheap!)

Danny LOVES all things coconut and therefore decided to indulge in some fresh coconut juice

Since I'm not quite the coconut loving girl, I decided to go for some of these sweet apple bananas...

But covered in rich chocolate and macadamia nuts of course... it was heaven

Have you ever gone to a farmer's market outside of where you're from?

  1. when we were in maui, we stopped at a road side stand. starfruit is DELICIOUS! and the avocados were bigger than our fists! the dude kept giving us samples of the fruit- i was in heaven. And, like Danny, I'm a lover of coconut, so the dude macheted one open for me right then and there (: it actually was one of my favorite experiences on the island, and I can't wait until we go back next year to do it again!
