Thankful For:

Today I am grateful for:

1) The gorgeous weather. Although it snowed this past weekend, it's back to warmer temperatures and it is so wonderful! I took this picture when I was out walking Maverick the other day

2) Summer in Jackson is like being sent to the most awesome summer camp for the entire season. Everybody's out hiking mountains, rafting down rivers, biking through town, fishing, rock climbing, eating, and enjoying themselves. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

3) Business is good. 12 orders came in alone yesterday and my jewelry is starting to sell in large quantities for bridesmaid gift sets- love!

4) I'm starting a second shop here soon full of mostly home decor and everyday accessories... I'm really excited getting everything ready. Stay tuned! :)

5) Today will be my first hike of the season- it'll be a shorter one since I'm doing it after work. But either way, I've missed it... I'm sure my buns will be super sore tomorrow too

Playing with Instagram

Alright so I'm totally an old grandma for just having downloaded Instragram, but it is so awesome! Why did I wait so long? I have a feeling no camera phone photo will go Instagramless from this point forward.

So far, all of Danny's photos are better than mine... I'm attributing that to the fact that he has a better iphone than me... and he probably does cooler stuff as well- but we'll just leave that between me and you. Mine is above and his is below

So am I the only one who's just recently jumped on the bandwagon? And for all you veterans, what filters do you like the best?

Memorial Day

This Memorial Day, I remember my Papa- how much of his life he gave to the army, and yet how little he asked in return. Even at his funeral, he had requested no service- no soldiers paying tribute, shooting their guns, and honoring him. He stated they'd have better things to do. And while I still disagree, I respect him even more for his decision.

So many of my family members have been in the military- my Papa, my other grandfather, my step- dad, my uncle, my cousin- and I am grateful for the hard work, dedication, and sacrifice each of them has willingly payed.

This Memorial Day, I think about them, about the countless others I do not know, and I remember my Papa.

To the Weekend!

It's the Weekend Yall... well, almost. And although I'm very much so looking forward to 3 days off, I'm also kind of missing my old California weather (where it's 90+ degrees). Because it's raining here in Jackson, and yesterday it even snowed! Craziness!

But either way it's going to be great. Maybe I'll even get around to some of those projects I've been saving for a "rainy day".  I hope you all one fantastic holiday weekend, whatever the weather may be!

Thankful For:

Image via here

So the goal was to go 9 weeks recounting every Wednesday 5 things I'm grateful for. Well looky here- those 9 weeks kind of zoomed past me- because I'm just now realizing it's Week 12. You can see the original post here, but basically, Health magazine quoted a survey saying that at the end of 9 weeks, the folks studied felt happier, healthier, and exercised more. I can't tell if I'm happier... I'm usually in a pretty good mood- but I definitely don't feel sadder? Interestingly enough, I have been exercising more... and in short feel healthier... so way to go Happiness Trick... you sneakily got me working out somehow.

But I'm going to continue on with this post, because I like thinking up things to be grateful for. It's a good reminder.

My blessings this week:

1) My wonderful husband surprised me with a bike! I've really been enjoying getting out in the park lately and riding- but since I didn't own a bike- I'd been having to rent. So the other day my husband had me come outside and there in front of our house was a shiny new bike- with a pretty helmet to boot. I'm the luckiest kid on the block!

2) We found an airline that flies folks out here waaaaay cheaper than normal. I may have to drive 2 hours into Idaho to go pick up our future guests... but knocking hundreds off the price tag is worth it. This also means I get to see my mama & sister next month- and my best friend hopefully the month following- yay!!

3) I felt a cold coming on a few days ago but I battled it off before it took hold- Victory! And maybe it's because of this posts's health inducing habits... brought on by my new bike... ah the circle of life

4) Moonrise Kingdom comes out in a few days

5) I rearranged my family room and organized my kitchen... feeling kind of accomplished

DIY PINWHEELS= Super Awesome Guest Post

Today I have a super awesome guest post from Jennifer over at Evey & Mae.  I first met Jennifer when she ordered her hair flower from me for her wedding (I'll soon be posting on her gorgeous wedding as well). And when I got a look at all the awesome DIY projects she did for her wedding, I couldn't help but ask her to share some of her DIY secrets.

Jennifer used these pinwheels all over her wedding- from the centerpieces to her bridesmaid bouquets... I love how each of them are different as well.

 What you'll need:

12x12 piece of scrapbook paper
buttons
hot glue gun
paper cutter (If you do not have one, scissors will work just fine)
ruler
bone fold (a bone fold is not necessary, but does help to make sure your pinwheels are folded nicely.)

Cut the 12x12 piece of scrapbook paper into 4 strips, each 3-inches wide.

Fold each strip in 1-inch increments, accordion style. (If you have a bone fold, you can use it to press down on the creases to make them more secure.)

Add a small strip of glue to connect the ends of each accordion strip together, overlapping the folds so they create one long accordion.

Overlap the ends of the accordion, creating a loop, and secure with hot glue.

Carefully, push the center of the loop inward, holding the edges secure in a pinwheel shape.

Holding the pinwheel carefully in place, use a small dot of hot glue in the center, and add your button to hold the center in place.

Hold the shape of the pinwheel together for a few seconds, allowing the glue to dry and the button to become secure.

Special notes:

-Pinwheels can be made in many different sizes and widths!  Cutting wider strips will result in larger pinwheels, and cutting more narrow strips will make smaller pinwheels.  To create a tighter looking pinwheel, simply make your accordion folds smaller, in 1/2 inch increments.  For a wider pinwheel that shows more of the pattern on the paper, fold in larger increments.

-Get creative!  Experiment with different buttons for the center, using different colors, shapes, and designs.  Feel free to add some personal touches as well!  You can add a layer of lace or tulle with hot glue underneath the button, or attach multiple pinwheels together to create different dimensions.  Pinwheels can also be strung together to create a garland, or attached to a dowel for a cake topper or to use as a bridesmaid bouquet!  You can also easily attach a number to the center of the pinwheel to create a table number!

Thanks so much Jennifer! These pinwheels are so cute and perfect for summer!

Real Wedding: Ashley & Brandon

Happy Monday All! Let's start today with Ashley & Brandon's wonderfully happy wedding.

The two were married on April 20'th at Cedar Creek Church, with a reception following at Stone Ridge Gold Course in Bowling Green, Ohio.

I love the joy in each of their photos together...

To the Weekend!

Source: flickr.com via Megan on Pinterest

Happy Weekend All! It's overcast and rainy here in Jackson, but we've got plenty of events going on to keep us busy. The library is having their biannual sale, the bike swap's happening, and last not but least- Elk Fest starts tomorrow. I don't know why but I love Elk Fest... and I totally wish I had me the money to get some large, naturally shed, elk antlers for our house... but for now, I'll just watch others bid thousands and thousands of their own money.

Have a wonderful weekend!

One Healthy, Quick Dish

This is a healthy version of an "everything but the kitchen sink' dish. So feel free to switch out any of the veggies for ones you currently have on hand. This dish would also be great with rice instead of quinoa.

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups quinoa (I used organic red quinoa)
  • 1 zucchini, sliced thin
  • 1 package firm tofu
  • 3 carrots, peeled and chopped
  • Soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 5 green onions chopped into 1 inch pieces
Cook quinoa according to package directions.

In a large wok, heat sesame oil over medium heat. Add zucchini and carrots, cook about 4 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add tofu and a couple glugs of soy sauce. Cook until warmed through- about 5 minutes. Add green onions. Cook for 1 minute and remove wok from heat. Add to quinoa. And enjoy! This dish is also awesome served cold... hot for dinner, cold for lunch. Yum!

Thankful For:

Grateful for:

1) Mail (that doesn't include bills). I love getting handwritten letters... surprise packages. It just feels so personal in an age where we're constantly on the computer. My old co- workers just sent me the team shirt from their last event... making me feel still a part of the team. I love them.

2) Sales. I just scored a flipping amazing smelling Voluspa diffuser for $10 (as opposed to it's $50 price tag). And now my house smells absolutely lovely.

3) Morning time people... does that make sense? I love that when I walk Maverick in the morning, people say Good Morning to me and comment about what the weather may be like for the rest of the day. As the day goes on we all get engrossed in what we're doing, but in the morning... I've found that people are just a bit more friendlier... or maybe it's just awkward to stop someone midday and say "Good Afternoon!" :)

4) My 2nd volume of the Teddy Roosevelt series I'm reading arrived. Can't wait to dive in and get to reading

5) It's been 70+ degrees multiple days in a row... hello Summer
